Recital & Lunch, Muse Piano Quintet, Royal Albert Hall, London, Sunday 19 September
A new series of recitals, featuring musicians from the RCM, in the Albert Hall’s Elgar Room. Yulia Vorontsova, who entertained us at Craxton Studios, is the pianist in the Quintet and it will be interesting to hear her play again.
Supper & Concert, London Symphony Orchestra, Valery Gergiev – conductor Denis Matsuev – piano Barbican Centre, London, Saturday 25 September
The young Russian virtuoso, Denis Matsuev, will perform Shchedrin’s Piano Concerto No 5. The programme also features Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite based on Bizet’s opera and Ravel’s orchestration of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
